The Flu

Chapter 1:

Early morning in the hedgehog house. Jules woke up to a faint cry. He rolled over to see his wife sleeping. "Well it wasnt her.". Hes said to himself. He slowly got out of bed and tip toed out of the room and into the hallway. He heard the cry again. "I think it came from Soni's room.". He whispered. He walked up to her door and slowly opened it.

When he walked through the door he nearly burst into tears. "Soni, baby girl are you okay?". He said quietly. He walked to the foot of her bed. She had lost all her color, her nose was runny, her eyes and cheeks were red, and her ears were drooped. She coughed a couple times then answered. "I dont feel good.". Her cough was croopy.

"You dont look good at all.". He said. He got the thermometer out of the drawer and put it in her mouth. He sat on the edge of the bed and felt her cheeks. They were extremeley hot. He took the thermometer out of her mouth. "105!?!?". He almost yelled. Soni coughed again. "Ouchie.". She began to cry. He rubbed her back and held her close. "I know baby girl. I gotta call Dr. Quack.". He kissed her forehead and grabbed the phone.

He dialed Dr. Quacks number. "Hello?". Dr. Quack answered. "Good morning Horatio.". Jules said glad he was in. " Ah Jules! What can I do for ya?". Soni coughed again. "Who are you talking to daddy?". She said weakly. Jules smiled at her. "Nobody sweetie.". "Is that Soni?". Dr. Quack asked worried. "Yes. She's really sick. Could I bring her in today?". Jules asked standing up. "You sure can! Bring her in any time!". Dr. Quack said.

"Thanks Horatio. I really appreciate it. I will have her in, in around 10 or 20 minutes.". Jules said. "No problem Jules. Anything for an old friend.". Dr. Quack said. "Goodbye.". "Bye." Jules hung up. "Daddy?". Soni started but ended as she coughed a few times. "I will be right back, okay sweetie?". Jules said as he left the room. He walked into his room and out some old jeans and a white tank top on.

"Jules? Where are you going?". Bernie asked half asleep. "I have to take Soni to Dr. Quack. She will be okay. Go back to sleep.". Jules said kissing his wife. "Okay honey.". Bernie said before she fell back asleep. Jules left the room and walked into Soni's room. She was on the side of her bed trying to get her light blue tank top on.

"Let me help you sweetie.". Jules said as he slipped her tank top on. "Thanks daddy.". She said. She went to get up but Jules stopped her. "I'll get your jeans sweetie. Dont get up.". Jules said as he grabbed her jeans and slipped them on her. He picked her up. She was limp. He carried her downstairs to the living room and sat her on the couch. He grabbed his and her shoes. He put his on. Soni was trying to put hers on but didnt have enough strenght.

"Dont worry about it baby.". Jules said as he smiled. "I'll get your shoes for you.". He gently grabbed her left ankle. He wiggled his finger against her foot. "Tickle tickle!". He giggled. "Hehe!". She giggled. But her smile didnt last long. She started to cough again. "Owwy! Daddy it hurts!". She sobbed. Jules put both her shoes on and hugged her. "I know sweetie. Could you be strong for me?". Jules asked picking her up. "Yeah I can try.". She said hugging him. "Thats my girl.". He said as he headed out the door with her. "Where are we going?". Soni asked. "Im taking you to see Dr. Quack.". He said as he walked up the hill to the doctors office.

They lived close enough to Dr. Quack so he could walk. They got to the office and jules carried her through the door. A nurse in the window noticed them. "Oh Jules is here with Soni! Dr. Quack will be with you shortly.". She said. "Thank you.". Juled said as he sat down in a chair still holding Soni.

"Will there be needles daddy?". Soni asked scared. She hated getting shots. The last shot she got was painfull. It was in the bend of her right arm. She was doing fine until the nurse started to talk. Then the nurse started to dig. She cried in pain. After that she was terrified of needles.

"Im not sure sweetie. We'll just have to wait and see.". Jules said leaning back in the chair. Soni was small for her age. She curled up in Jules arms. Soni was born a month early so she was small. She wasnt always a healthy little girl. She was constantly in the doctors for a cold or the flu. But she was a strong little girl and never let anything get her down.

Soni coughed a few times and tensed up. Jules felt it. He looked down and saw tears running down her face. "What's wrong sweetie?". He asked wipping her tears away. "I dont feel good.". She sobbed. She coughed again. "It hurts daddy!". She cried into his chest. Jules hated seeing her cry.

"I know baby girl.". He hugged her tight. "It's gonna be okay. Please dont cry.". He said holding back his own tears. He could see that she was tired and in pain. He hated when she got sick. He started to tear up. Theb he felt her relax. He looked down and saw her sleeping. "Well at least she's getting some sleep.". He said.

He stroked her quills. She opened her eyes halfway and looked up. "Sorry. I fell asleep.". She said half awake. "Dont worry sweetie. You can sleep as long as you like.". Jules said kissing her hot forehead. She coughed a bit then yawned. He giggled seeing her try to sleep sitting up. "Lay down on me sweetie. You'll sleep better.". He told her laying her head on his chest. "Oh.". She said yawning.

She laid her head on his chest. It was so warm. She was shivering. "Are you cold sweetie?". Jules asked looking down at her. "Yeah kinda.". She shivered more. Jules had a jacket tied around his waist. He untied it and put it around her shoulders. "Is that better?". He asked hugging her tight. "Yup. Thanks daddy.". She said curling up and falling asleep.
